Sacramento Chesterton Society Meeting

June 13, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Happy 5th Anniversary, everybody!

June 19th, 2012 was the first meeting of our little Chesterton Society, and June 2017 marks our fifth year. We’ve covered a lot of ground since then and read a lot of books, stories and essays. Speaking for myself, I can say my understanding of Chesterton’s ideas has increased and sharpened since we began reading and discussing his writing together. I hope you all can say the same.

This month brings us to the third and fourth books of The Ballad of the White Horse, wherein King Alfred, in disguise, goes out and surveys the countryside, first (Book III: The Harp of Alfred) being brought as a wandering minstrel into the camp of the enemy (the Danes), and (Book IV: The Woman in the Forest) then comes into the home of a common family, where he is told to mind the food cooking on the hearth, where he falls into a reverie.

Maybe we can read some of the poem aloud again. And HERE is a link to Librivox which has two versions of our book. Both are good, but I am partial to the second recording. When I hear it read things pop out to me that I didn’t notice in my reading of it.

Don’t miss it. Tuesday, June 13th at St. Stephen the First Martyr Catholic Church, 7:30 pm.

Yours,

Spencer
