Sacramento Chesterton Society Meeting

November 13, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The second Tuesday of the month is upon us again. This Tuesday we will meet to discuss the second chapter of St. Thomas Aquinas: The Dumb Ox, Chapter 2: The Runaway Abbot. The meeting will be at the usual place, after the 6:30 pm evening Mass.

If you would like a digital copy of the book HERE is one in pdf format. HERE and HERE are online HTML copies. I looked but couldn’t find any free audio books of St. Thomas Aquinas.

Last month we talked about the times of St Thomas and St Francis and St. Dominic, their various personalities, their similarities and differences; the political and religious climate, the two “Internationalisms” that ruled Europe at the time. How Europe was indeed an “Internationalism” rather than a collection of competing nationalities, as it later became, with dreadful results. All kinds of good stuff! Certainly stuff I never learned in school, but it makes sense and casts an illuminating light (aside: tautology) on the era, makes much more sense than most of what passes for history these days.

In our current chapter, Chesterton turns to the life of St. Thomas. He is following the pattern he used in his biography of St. Francis, at least for these first two chapters.

I think it will be an interesting discussion. It usually is.

See you Tuesday evening,

Yours,

Spencer
